Types of UPVC Door Handles
It's important to choose the appropriate replacement upvc handle for your home if upvc handles need replacing. A locksmith can provide and install high-security uPVC door handles that have additional security features.
The most important measurements to take are the measurement A (also known as PZ) as well as the length of the backplate. Check these measurements to ensure the new uPVC handle will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a solid bar that is pivotally positioned around a point (known as a the fulcrum). When you apply a force to the end of the lever, it is likely to cause it to turn the fulcrum to the direction of the force applied. This rotates the fulcrum, increasing the applied force which allows you to lift or move something that would require a greater amount of force if you attempted to apply directly to the load.
The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point at which you apply force determines the maximum movement. This is referred to as the mechanical advantage. The advantage in mechanical terms increases as the lever is extended. You can calculate the advantage of mechanical by dividing the distance from fulcrum point to the point you are applying force by distance between the fulcrum point and end of the lever.
Levers can produce different effects depending on the way forces are applied. For instance a lever of class 2 tends to rotate in the opposite direction when the force of effort is applied (like a T-totter). If you press on the handle of a door and force it to open, the forces will cause similar rotational effects to this.
However, levers don't create energy. Levers increase the force by changing small amounts of effort applied over a long distance into greater amounts of force that are applied over shorter distances. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and transport huge quantities of cargo. This is also the basis behind the levers that are found in many everyday tools, such as crowbars and fishing rods, claws for hammers, and even your legs when you sit on the hand brake of your vehicle.
Lever/Pad

Lever pad handles are a kind of door handle made from UPVC that have levers on both sides that operate the multipoint lock. These come in many variations and finishes and can be used with a variety of materials like UPVC, Aluminium & Timber doors. They are sold in pairs for the inner and exterior door, with spindles and screws included. They are also available in hand and unhandled versions to suit different users.
These are often used for new builds and can be used to replace the existing upvc doors. They are typically operated by lifting up the levers to throw out all of the multipoint locks and turning the key to close and unlock. They provide additional security in comparison to traditional lever door handles because the locking function can only be accessed by entering the door with keys unless the door is deadlocked.
They're not as secure as a cylinder lock but they are a cost-effective way to provide extra security to your home. The only disadvantage is that they don't provide the same level protection like a cylinder lock and they don't restrict access to the home if the door is left open.
We stock a large number of lever pad upvc handles produced by the top manufacturers in the market. They are made with high quality components. In general, they come with a manufacturer's guarantee.
Typically, they are designed to be compatible with a 92mm lock, or the replacement version of this known as a Paddock lock. They will feature a 92mm cylinder center on the inside and 62mm on the exterior and be fitted with 2 spindle followers. Some are inserted into the back plate whilst others can be removed to allow for different fixing centers.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches are the most basic type of door handles. Pressing down on the lever operates a simple latch mechanism inside to keep the door closed, which can be locked with the use of a key. Some lever privacy handles operate based on this same principle however, with the addition of a snib (like a doorknob).
A snib can be a very useful tool, especially in homes where security and privacy are crucial. If your spouse is expected to arrive at home late from work, you can apply the snib so that they aren't allowed in until they're ready to come in. This type of handle is also popular in doors that are inside like bedrooms, where you might require a lock to prevent access from outside.
Snib buttons may cause problems in certain situations, particularly when you have locks that are old and doors that are warped. If the snib is used accidentally or by someone who isn't used to it, the door could slam shut and lock you out. You can usually get in by knocking on the door frame or letterbox. But this isn't a good idea.
If your uPVC door has a snib button, we recommend replacing the handle with an modern E-LOK 7-Series smart lock. These smart locks can be retrofitted to double turn pull handle kits. They are available with coverplates that conceal holes that are already present for a seamless installation. The E-LOK uses a smart app that allows you to unlock the door using RFID cards or mechanical keys, and can be configured with passcodes for secure entry and convenience. The system is tested to 200k cycles to ensure durability. The handles are made from solid metal and meet BS EN 1670 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.
Lever/Moveable Pad
This is a popular handle design for front doors. It comes with the advantage of preventing the door from being opened from the outside without keys if the lock isn't deadlocked. This is achieved by using a 'pad-shaped' external handle that locks into the gap between the handle and the lock case.
This handle is designed to be used with uPVC multipoint locks that use a split spindle mechanism. This kind of operation requires that the lever handle and the external pad handle both be fitted to the same lock case. This can be a simple replacement of the current uPVC handle, however it may also require a lock case change or a new set to handle furniture.
These aluminum levers and movable pad door handles are suitable for uPVC doors. They feature a slide bearing that is maintenance-free as well as spring cassettes and fixing lugs provided. They feature a euro-style cut out and can be fitted to a wide range of uPVC and timber doors.
The lever-movable pad is available in a variety of designs to fit a broad range of multipoint locks. They are designed to work with split spindle multipoint locks that have a 92mm cylinder centre and require a separate split spindle set that is provided by the lock manufacturer.
These Hoppe London 77G/3831N/113 lever moveable pad handles are made from cast aluminum with an anodised surface that is corrosion resistant and has high scratch resistance. Lever/Moveable Snib
Lever handles are among the most common kinds of doors handles made of upvc. They are available in various designs. It is made up of two handles that can be locked and moved with a thumbturn cylinder or the use of a key. A pad handle is an alternative to a lever or lever handle. It is made up of either a movable or fixed pad that can be used to operate the lock. These Fullex handles are sprung lever pads that have a snib that can be turned on to hold the latch back.
